Ajani Burrell

Experience

Ajani has been with the company since 2005, serving as a teacher, tutor, and curriculum developer. Before joining Bell Curves Ajani spent another five years immersed in the world of test prep with a number of different companies. In the past decade Ajani has taught, trained teachers, or developed prep materials for the GMAT, LSAT, GRE, SAT, and SAT Subject Tests, among others. He has also taught English Language and Composition at the undergraduate level for more than three years, and feels as comfortable in the classroom as he does on the soccer field. In his free time, Ajani fancies himself a writer. He and a writing partner recently completed a screenplay for which they are seeking representation, and he has begun work on a novel he hopes to finish by early 2011. Regardless of what his future holds, Ajani can't really imagine a world in which he wouldn't be engaged in teaching.

Ally has been tutoring privately since she was in eighth grade when her mom would volunteer her services to her younger sister's friends. I’m a physics educator and science communicator with over a decade of experience helping students build confidence in physics and mathematics. I’ve taught Year 11–12 Physics, AP Physics 2, algebra-based physics, and a variety of math courses, working with learners from middle school through university in both the U.S. and Australia. I love taking topics that feel intimidating on paper and turning them into something students can actually enjoy.

Before becoming a teacher, I worked in experimental nuclear physics, doing everything from gamma-ray spectroscopy at a linear accelerator to antimatter trapping research with NASA to calibration projects tied to the LHC at CERN. Those experiences gave me a deep appreciation for how wonderfully strange and beautiful the physical world is — and they’re a big part of why I teach the way I do: clear, intuitive, and always grounded in the “why,” not just the formulas.

I prepare students for AP Physics, school-based physics assessments, and SAT/ACT math and science reasoning, and I’m especially passionate about supporting students who don’t initially see themselves as “science people.” Watching them find their footing — and sometimes even discover they love the subject — is one of my favorite parts of this work.

When I’m not teaching, you can usually find me stargazing, writing poetry, diving into a good sci-fi world, or playing video games with a cat (or two) in my lap. I’m endlessly curious and always exploring the intersection between science and storytelling. More than anything, I believe science is for everyone, and I love helping students discover just how capable they really are.

Anthony Greblick

Dr. Anthony J. Greblick (or “Tony”) has 30+ years of academic experience. He has helped many students prepare for standardized tests (e.g., SAT, ACT; GRE, GMAT, LSAT; ISEE, SSAT; AP Language, AP Literature, AP French), in both full-class and one-one-one settings; worked as an admissions consultant (for top undergraduate and graduate programs); and taught English and ESL classes for local universities and community colleges, the LAUSD, and other private schools. He also held the title Assistant Professor of English and Communications at Shepherd University (Los Angeles), where he taught for ten years, and was an expository writing instructor at USC for twelve years.

Tony graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in linguistics (summa cum laude, distinction in the major); he also earned a varsity letter in football. In 2000, Tony received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Southern California (specializing in the history of English, colloquial American English and American dialects, English syntax/grammar, sociolinguistics, and historical language change [also previously earning an MA from USC]). He has studied various foreign languages (French, German, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Ukrainian), which feature prominently in his daily reading regimen. Tony has been a member of American MENSA, Ltd. (160+ IQ) since high school.

Additionally, he has appeared three times on television game shows; he once won $5000 on "Win Ben Stein's Money" and was a member of the winning team in a televised nationwide IQ test, missing only two questions and tying for the highest score (and defeating guest contestant Ben Stein—for a second time!). His hobbies and interests include sports (baseball, golf, football), comedy (stand-up, improvisational, musical/lyrical), and
songwriting.

Christina Robinson is currently an Audiologist in the State of New Jersey. She has been at Bell Curves since 2014 serving as an instructor, private tutor and proctor. Gustavo was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He completed a bachelor’s degree in industrial
chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), at Humacao, and earned a PhD degree in
Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst. He spent one year at the
University of Rhode Island as a postdoctoral fellow before joining the Department of Chemistry
at UPR-Mayaguez. In 2010 he moved to Lehman College and became a faculty member of the
Chemistry and Biochemistry programs in the CUNY Graduate Center. As a college professor, he
has taught a diverse range of course, spanning from the foundational principles of General and
Physical Chemistry, to advanced topics in Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Thermodynamics
Additionally, he is the principal investigator of a research laboratory working in the
development and implementation of theoretical and computational methods to study systems
in condensed phase. Current projects include supercooled and glassy water, cryopreservation
of biomolecules, description of quantum liquids and glasses using the potential energy
landscape formalism, and nano-confined liquids. He has published over 70 papers in peer-
reviewed journals and obtained external funding from the NSF, NIH, and the Cottrell Research
Corporation. In the year 2000, I received the Camille Dreyfus teacher-scholar award.

In his spare time, you can find him in the gym, training traditional Asian martials arts, and more
recently attempting yoga postures that make him questions the laws of physics.

Hany ElDiwany

Upon moving to New York City in 2008, Hany began teaching with Bell Curves in the GMAT and eventually cross trained in teaching the SAT, ACT, GRE, and various regents and AP level high school topics. He is very fond of teaching - an endeavor for which he uses skills from across his diverse background.His blend of problem solving and creative skills, combined with his love for helping students grasp challenging concepts make him an effective teacher for students of a multitude of learning styles. Jack Sperry

Hey there! I'm originally from the sunny shores of San Juan, Puerto Rico, but about three years ago, I traded the beaches for the bustling streets of New York City to complete my Master’s degree. Since my college days, I’ve been teaching all sorts of subjects—math, Spanish, English, and Acting! Now in NYC, I’ve been busy teaching SAT prep classes at various schools and working with students one-on-one across Brooklyn and Manhattan, tackling everything from SAT to SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, ACT, and Spanish lessons.

One of my favorite parts of teaching? Seeing the “lightbulb moment” on a kid's face when they finally get it! I always focus on making sure each student feels heard and supported, with a little Spanish flair sprinkled in to keep things fun.

When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll probably find me auditioning for shows, hitting the gym, or booking a quick flight back to Puerto Rico to visit family. No matter where I am, I’m always keeping my Puerto Rican culture alive and sharing it with everyone around me!

Jamie Larson

Jamie Larson is an artist, educator, and activist. Jamie has been teaching and private tutoring with Bell Curves since 2013, but her work with youth and teens goes back much further. She has been creating and facilitating programming to help youth develop leadership skills and foster community since high school. Jamie graduated from New York University in 2010, with a focus on theater, design, and fine art. She strives to bring this creativity to the classroom and to integrate it into her private lessons. By making strong connections and meeting students at their own unique levels, Jamie seeks to build confidence and empower her students as she teaches. With a broad base of knowledge, she teaches elementary schools students all the way up to high school students taking college entry exams. This includes Common Core, ELA, SHSAT, SSAT, ISEE, Regents Exams, SAT, and ACT, in addition to homework help and general tutoring.

Jason is the lead developer and teacher for Bell Curves K-8 programs, and is involved with nearly every curriculum development project at Bell Curves from SAT workbooks to GMAT flash cards.

Josephine Sloyan

Josephine’s passion for teaching began in college, where she provided support for low-income students as a student mentor. I graduated summa cum laude and was the college marshal for my graduating class at the Pennsylvania State University. I spent my last semester living with a host family in Montpellier, France, a small city near the Mediterranean Sea, where I studied among native French students, mastered the language, and ate some very smelly cheese. I also earned a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate from the International TEFL Academy and have taught English as a Second Language (ESL) to adult immigrants and refugees of all levels (in the Philadelphia and New York Metropolitan Areas) for the past three years. After moving to New York, I have remained passionate about and continued to work with this population, primarily in tutoring. Since 2020, I have served as a Big Brother/Mentor for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America organization, developing a one-to-one relationship with a youth by offering encouragement and role modeling as well as engaging in shared activities. A big, weird kid myself, I identify with and have a passion for working with youth, especially those considered by themselves or others to be weird or different. Kenneth Ray

Kenneth has been teaching SAT preparation for over fifteen years, six of those years with The ProTesters prior to the company's merger with Bell Curves. When he is not teaching, he is an assistant coach with the Berkeley College (New York City campus) Men's basketball team, a position he has treasured for the past six seasons. Additionally, he is the co-founder of the Urban Juke Joint, a monthly open mic series where poets, musicians, and other artists seek to showcase their talents through a nobler expressionÂ?. As I attended U.T Arlington, I also worked as a tutor in their math department. This is where I first got my experience tutoring math from H.S level to the early undergraduate level. In the last 2 years of my undergraduate journey, I completed the UTeach Program, and consequently did student teaching in various elementary, middle, and high school settings before ultimately graduating and going to work for Dallas ISD at David W Carter High school where I taught 10th grade geometry and 9th Grade Pre-AP Geometry for 2 years. Upon finishing that, I took a job teaching math and science at middle and high school level at The Lincoln School in Kathmandu, Nepal. Upon returning in 2018, I began working as a tutor for Tarrant County College Southeast in their math department, building my client list for private tutoring, and over some of the next few summers working as a Math Instructor for the Johns Hopkins University CTY program.

I love seeing students learn how to be successful by themselves. Witnessing them overcome their fear of math and learn to work within a system as they recognize patterns and learn to use them brings me great joy. It’s honestly also just fun to see students grow and take on new styles of learning as they develop their critical thinking and make connections that math has to the real world for themselves. Math has always been my favorite subject besides art and music. Algebra and Calculus [studying infinity] specifically fascinated me from a young age, but probability and statistics have also grown on me in my latter years. While I am yet to really make the explicit connection between my math and my music, many have said they see this in my works as a tutor and as a performing musician.

Hi, I’m Leela! I am currently completing my Bachelor of Arts at NYU with a major in mathematics and a minor in physics. I have been tutoring math since 2021, covering subjects from algebra to calculus. I am extremely passionate about math and I love being able to share that interest through teaching.

Previously, I worked as a behavioral technician, developing skills needed to teach students from varying educational backgrounds, particularly in language comprehension. I also have an extensive background in competing in and coaching martial arts (Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling). Teaching a British literature course to 11th graders is my favorite teaching assignment. I now teach the verbal side of the SAT with Bell Curves. My favorite hobbies include reading about and studying the great classic literary figures and enjoying anything to do with poet Sylvia Plath or opera singer Maria Callas.

Nancy Thompson’s family has been educators for six generations. As a published writer, she has written for print, radio, blogs, television and the theater; her lifelong commitment to family and community literacy continues the tradition of the paternal ancestors who organized literacy circles in Kentucky prior to the Emancipation.

Now a retired CUNY lecturer, Nancy Thompson tutors reading, public speaking, composition and the ELA sections of the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, Regents, AP Lang, and the New York State ELA exam; she also edits research papers for graduate school students.

She strongly believes that once children are introduced to their true abilities, encouraged to feel confident in learning new methods, they have the opportunity to soar. She attended George Washington University, where she studied psychology and music. She is currently learning jazz violin as an addendum to her classical training. She aspires to learn and grow in the field of education and create a non-profit to teach youth financial literacy and the importance of philanthropy, in the near future. She loves to volunteer with local community groups, perform in her church's chamber orchestra. In addition to her love of education and music she also enjoys calligraphy.

Experience

Taylor (she/her) grew up in Texas and graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Sam Houston State University. She discovered her love of teaching at the age of 12 when she started assisting classes at her local dance studio. After joining her high school theatre troupe, she began tutoring her fellow actors in math and essay writing - a trend she continued through her college years. She joined the Bell Curves team in 2016 and joined the Bell Curves Office shortly thereafter as K-12 Program Coordinator, developing curriculum and training new Bell Curves teachers. She teaches and tutors a variety of exams including the SAT, ACT, SHSAT, ISEE, and GRE. In her spare time, she enjoys writing poetry, solving puzzles, and performing in local cabarets.
